Our joint protection systems are made from a soft lead composition. This material is chosen for its unique flexibility, low elastic modulus, and durability. It allows the flashing to 'creep' and adapt to building movement without failing. It naturally oxidizes to a neutral grey color that blends seamlessly with stone and masonry, and it can also be painted if desired.

Absolutely. While renowned for historic preservation, our products are frequently specified in new construction to ensure maximum durability and prevent future joint failures. Proactively protecting masonry joints extends the building's life and reduces long-term maintenance costs. The A-2 Type A cap is specifically designed for new-construction installation only.

They provide a physical shield over the sealant, protecting it from UV radiation, rain, ice, and temperature fluctuations. This barrier prevents the sealant from drying out, cracking, and pulling away from the joint edges (a failure known as margin checking). By absorbing stress from building movement, WEATHERCAP® ensures the sealant remains intact and effective for far longer.

There are two primary configurations. Type A is a flat cap designed for joints between masonry units on the same plane, such as copings and belt courses. Type B is a 90-degree cove cap used for right-angle joints, such as where a window sill meets a wall, at cornices, or on entrance steps. Both types are available in various stock sizes to fit different joint widths.

Yes, our lead flashings can be painted to match any specific aesthetic requirements of a project. However, many architects and restorers choose to leave it unfinished. The soft lead naturally oxidizes to a dead neutral grey that blends inoffensively with most stone, brick, and mortar, providing a classic, unobtrusive finish that complements historic and new masonry alike.

All our stock and custom flashing profiles are supplied in standard 6-foot lengths. This size is manageable for transport and allows for easy handling and cutting to size on the job site.
