Expansion Joint Accessories: Essential Components for Projects

Typically, expansion joints are filled with a flexible sealant and a backer rod. Our WEATHERCAP® soft lead accessories are installed with the sealant to cover and protect it from UV exposure and weather, which extends its service life and improves the joint's overall performance.

Common materials include flexible sealants like silicone or urethane, preformed foam sealants, and protective metal or lead caps. Our WEATHERCAP® system uses soft lead caps in conjunction with sealants to provide a durable, flexible, and long-lasting barrier against moisture intrusion.

Our WEATHERCAP® accessories are installed directly into a sealant-filled joint. The integrated splined anchor shaft is embedded into the fresh sealant, which then cures to hold the cap securely in place. This method allows the cap to move with the joint while maintaining a continuous seal.

Type A is a flat cap configuration designed for joints between masonry units on the same plane, such as the tops of copings, lintels, or balustrades. Type B is a 90-degree cove cap used for right-angle joints, like where a projecting stone lintel or cornice meets a vertical wall.
