Typically, vertical expansion joints in brick veneer are spaced every 20 to 25 feet, and horizontal joints are placed at each floor line. However, this can vary based on structural design and climate. WEATHERCAP® is installed within these sealant-filled joints to protect them from failure caused by movement, settlement, and environmental exposure, ensuring their long-term effectiveness.

WEATHERCAP® is installed over the sealant, shielding it from direct exposure to UV radiation, rain, and extreme temperatures, which extends sealant life. Its soft lead construction also reduces the effective opening of the joint, minimizing stress on the sealant as the building moves and preventing margin checking, which can lead to leaks and moisture damage.

Type A is a flat cap designed for joints between masonry units on the same plane, such as cross joints on copings, lintels, and belt courses. Type B is a 90-degree cove cap used for right-angle joints, like where a window sill meets masonry, at corner junctions, or where a horizontal water table meets a vertical wall. Both provide durable, flexible protection.
