The system is installed as an adjunct to caulk or sealant. The lead cap, with its splined anchor shaft, is embedded into a sealant-filled masonry joint. This protects the sealant from UV exposure and physical stress, significantly extending its service life. Type A caps have a flat configuration for joints where masonry units are in the same plane, like the top of copings. Type B caps feature a 90-degree cove design for right-angle joints, such as where a cornice meets a wall. The correct type is selected based on the specific geometry of the joint being protected.
