Common flashing metals include aluminum, galvanized steel, and copper. However, our WEATHERCAP® system uses soft lead, which offers unique advantages. Its flexibility and low elastic modulus allow it to 'creep' and adapt to joint changes caused by settlement or thermal cycles. This ensures the seal remains intact over time, making it ideal for the long-term protection of historic and significant masonry structures.

WEATHERCAP works as an adjunct to sealant. It is embedded in the sealant-filled joint, effectively covering the sealant from direct exposure to UV rays, rain, and temperature fluctuations. This shield significantly extends the life of the sealant, prevents it from drying out or cracking, and reduces the likelihood of margin checking, where the sealant pulls away from the masonry.

Type A is a flat joint cap designed for masonry units set in approximately the same plane, such as the top joints of copings, lintels, and balustrades. Type B is a 90° cove cap used for right-angle joints, like where a projecting lintel or cornice meets a vertical wall. Both are made from the same soft lead material to provide durable, flexible protection for different architectural details.

Specifying our system from the outset ensures that vulnerable joints in parapets, cornices, and window openings are protected against moisture intrusion and movement-related failures from day one.
