The WEATHERCAP® system is manufactured from a soft lead strip. This material is chosen for its unique properties, including a low elastic modulus and flexibility, which allow it to creep and adapt to building movement over time without failing. This ensures a continuous, long-lasting seal that protects the underlying masonry sealant.

WEATHERCAP® is installed over a sealant-filled joint. It covers the sealant to protect it from UV exposure and environmental stress, which prolongs its life. The cap also accommodates building movement, preventing the sealant from tearing or checking at the margins, thus maintaining a weatherproof barrier and preventing leaks.

The system is primarily used for weatherproofing masonry joints in both historic preservation and new construction. Common applications include protecting joints on copings, parapets, cornices, belt courses, water tables, window and door lintels, and entrance steps. It is suitable for stone, brick, and other masonry structures.

Yes, WEATHERCAP® is highly suitable for new construction to ensure long-term joint durability. In fact, the Type A-2 Flat Joint Cap is specifically designated for new-construction installations only. Specifying WEATHERCAP® from the outset helps prevent common issues related to joint failure and moisture penetration as the building settles.

All WEATHERCAP® products are supplied in standard 6-foot lengths for easy field cutting and fitting. We offer a range of stock sizes in both Type A (Flat) and Type B (Cove) configurations to fit various joint widths, from under 3/8 inch to 1 1/2 inches. Custom and larger sizes are also available upon special order to meet unique project requirements.

Yes. As a lead-based product, it must be handled in accordance with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.1025).
