The soft lead material is flexible and has a low elastic modulus, allowing it to 'creep' and adapt to new joint configurations as a building settles or moves. This prevents the sealant from tearing or losing adhesion (margin checking), maintaining a weatherproof seal over time and extending joint life.

WEATHERCAP® is ideal for horizontal and vertical joints in stone and masonry. It's commonly used on copings, parapets, cornices, belt courses, window/door lintels, and entrance steps. It is not intended for vertical joints on concrete tilt-up panels, as its primary design is for projecting and horizontal elements.

Yes, WEATHERCAP® can be painted to match the surrounding masonry or architectural details. If left unpainted, the lead surface quickly oxidizes to a neutral grey color that blends naturally with most stone and masonry, making it visually unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing for historic applications.

We offer a range of stock sizes in both Type A (flat) and Type B (90-degree cove) configurations to fit joints from under 3/8-inch up to 1 1/2-inches. Custom sizes and configurations can also be manufactured upon request for unique or oversized joint conditions found in special restoration projects.

The lead cap is installed as an adjunct to a compatible masonry sealant. The joint is filled with sealant, and the splined anchor shaft of the WEATHERCAP® is pressed into the sealant.
