While many high-quality sealants exist, their lifespan is often limited by exposure and movement. Our WEATHERCAP® system is designed as an adjunct to these sealants. It covers the sealant, protecting it from UV rays and stress, significantly extending its effective life and ensuring a durable, waterproof joint for years to come.

The system is made of soft lead, which has a low elastic modulus. This allows it to remain flexible and slowly 'creep' into new joint configurations as the building settles or moves. Unlike rigid solutions, it absorbs stress without shearing or tearing, maintaining a continuous seal and preventing moisture from penetrating the protected joint.

Yes, absolutely. While it's a proven solution for historic restoration, WEATHERCAP® is also ideal for new construction projects requiring durable, long-term joint protection. Our A-2 Type A cap is specifically for new installations, and other profiles are regularly specified by architects to prevent future joint failures in new masonry work.

Type A is a flat cap for joints where masonry units are in the same plane, such as cross joints on copings and lintels. Type B is a 90-degree cove cap used for right-angle joints, like where a horizontal surface (e.g., a window sill) meets a vertical wall, or at corner and fillet joints to ensure a complete seal.

The soft lead construction is designed for easy field cutting and fitting, supplied in 6-foot lengths for convenience. As with any lead product, standard safety precautions should be followed, including wearing gloves and washing hands after handling, in accordance with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.1025) referenced in our documentation.

Yes, the lead cap can be painted to match surrounding masonry or architectural details. If left unpainted, the surface naturally oxidizes to a neutral grey color that blends seamlessly with most stone and masonry, providing a discreet and aesthetically pleasing finish while ensuring long-term protection for the joint.
