The soft lead cap is installed over a sealant-filled joint. Its flexibility allows it to adapt to building movement without tearing. This covers the sealant, reduces stress, and prevents margin checking, ensuring a long-lasting, weather-resistant seal for the masonry.

There are two primary configurations. Type A is a flat cap for joints on the same plane, like copings or lintel tops. Type B is a 90° cove cap for right-angle joints, such as where a window sill meets a wall or a cornice joins a parapet.

Yes, while renowned for historic restoration, it is also highly effective for new construction. It provides long-term joint protection from the outset, preventing future issues. The A-2 Type A cap is specifically designated for new-construction installation only.

Initially, the lead has a metallic sheen, but it quickly oxidizes to a neutral grey color that blends seamlessly with most stone and masonry. For specific aesthetic requirements, the caps can also be painted to perfectly match the surrounding material.

We offer a range of stock sizes for both Type A and Type B caps to fit common joint widths from under 3/8 inch to 1 1/2 inches. For non-standard or oversized joints often found in historic structures, we can also provide custom sizes upon request.

The cap is embedded into a freshly applied bed of compatible sealant within the masonry joint. Its anchor shaft ensures a secure fit. We provide detailed installation guidance, CAD drawings, and technical support to assist architects and contractors with proper application.
